This unique portrait was created in February 2022 as part of the 'Barbarella Dollington' series. The artist explains that the collection was conceived to articulate a central theme in their practice, namely “The contradictions and the contrasts”. The work investigates the particular contradiction found in what the artist calls “kitsch”, or the idea of a manufactured perfection. Using the form of a broken doll, the piece embodies a “shattered kitsch”, revealing the uncomfortable truths that perfection is designed to hide. Each portrait in the series is algorithmically generated, resulting in a distinct composition.
