Leander Herzog and Milian Mori

Leander Herzog and Milian Mori are Swiss artists who work in collaboration. While they publish under the single name Milian Mori, their output is a joint practice focused on creating audiovisual works from algorithms. Their generative pieces have been exhibited and collected by institutions including the House of Electronic Arts in Basel, which holds several works from their series in its permanent collection.

The artists build systems that generate both sound and image entirely within a web browser using code. Their core project is the DOM series, a title that refers to the Document Object Model, the standard programming interface for web documents. Herzog and Mori use this foundational structure of the web as both their material and a set of formal constraints. Their compositions explore principles of ratio, rhythm and repetition, producing series of works where each iteration is a unique outcome of a shared generative system. In later works, they have incorporated interactive elements, allowing a collector to permanently fix the state of an artwork.

Herzog and Mori’s work makes the underlying architecture of the digital environment tangible. By translating the logic of code into abstract visual patterns and minimal music, they engage with a history of generative art and systematic composition.
