Cat Kingdom

This animated gif originates from a mixed media drawing of the same title. The work is part of Dolce Paganne's ‘Series of Tragic Portraits’ from 2021. According to the artist’s note, the scene is inspired by a girl whose wish was to be surrounded by cats. This seemingly benign premise is complicated by the appended warning, “But attention! Happy Hour starts soon...”. The animation process transforms the static drawing into a looping narrative, a technique the artist uses in her practice. The work was published on the hic et nunc platform in June 2021 in an edition of 23.
