Dolce Paganne
1692
This drawing, made with coloured pencil and soft pastel, takes the Salem Witch Trials as its subject. The title, `1692`, marks the year of the historical event. Dolce Paganne accompanies the work with the Latin palindrome, “In Girum Imus Nocte et Consimimur Igni”, which translates as “We Spin Around the Night and are Consumed by Fire”. This approach, combining a visual composition with textual and historical references, is consistent with the artist’s practice. The physical drawing was digitised and published on the hic et nunc platform in July 2021. The work was issued in an edition of 119.
