Friendship Bracelets #2253

Part of the Friendship Bracelets series from 2022, this work pairs a generative digital pattern with a guide for its creation in the physical world. Alexis André developed the underlying algorithm, which produces a wide array of distinct designs from a single set of rules. The project was conceived with Erick Calderon and cites the artist Donald Judd as an influence. By providing instructions to make a simple bracelet, the work demonstrates how the digital image can be represented physically with inexpensive materials. Its final composition was fixed by the program at its moment of execution.
