Friendship Bracelets #2098

This unique work is an outcome of a generative system designed by Alexis André for his 2022 series, Friendship Bracelets. The project, made in collaboration with Erick Calderon, was informed by Donald Judd’s use of simple, accessible materials. As with every piece in the long form series, the digital image is paired with instructions for its physical fabrication using embroidery floss. The artist’s algorithm determines the specific thread sequence and colour palette for each pattern. The accompanying note suggests the experience of creating the artwork is as important as possessing the digital original.
