Hiragana#2 い

The second work in the Kana series, this piece provides a visual interpretation of ‘い’, the Hiragana character for the sound ‘i’. The artist’s note is minimal, stating only the character’s phonetic value and listing the core elements of abstract, colour, line, and composition. The work presents two distinct vertical marks in black, relating to the strokes of the written character. These are placed upon a ground of soft, layered colour blocks. Released in late August 2023 in an edition of twenty, it continues the series’ systematic translation of linguistic signs into purely visual arrangements.
