Hiragana#1 あ

This work corresponds to ‘あ’, the phonetic character for ‘a’ in the Japanese Hiragana syllabary. In an accompanying note, the artist outlines the three writing systems of Japanese, situating Hiragana as the one used for native words. The composition is an abstract equivalent for the character, using what Mohi terms colour line composition to render its form. Thin black lines create a shape suggestive of the character’s strokes, set against a background of vertical colour fields. Published on the Tezos platform in August 2023, this work was issued in an edition of four.
