Emotional Shell #347

This generative work from August 2022 belongs to the Emotional Shell series of introspective portraits. The series uses humanoid forms generated from code to consider the body as a vessel for emotion. Watkins's accompanying text for the series questions whether an artificial form might contain human essence, or the thoughts and feelings that define our experience. The artist's practice is based on developing generative algorithms which produce specific visual results. He states that these works are created entirely with code, without the use of artificial intelligence or previously existing image files, extending his research into replication and originality.
