Kim Asendorf
monogrid 1.1 CE #154
This work from 2022 is generated by a custom software system. The artist’s code first builds an image from a grid of rectangles, using one of two initial styles. This foundational structure is then continuously altered by sixteen animations running in parallel. These algorithms, which include functions based on noise, shifting, and modulo mathematics, independently select and edit pixels within specific areas. The animations can overlap, producing emergent visual combinations. As part of the monogrid 1.1 series, this piece uses a colour palette comprising one of twelve colours plus black or white, and an updated fragment shader intended to produce a more chaotic effect.
