This work, titled #1, is the first in the ‘BanaNo’ series. Its accompanying note from the artist, “Which came first: the banana or the tape?”, directly frames the piece as a comment on Maurizio Cattelan’s Comedian. By rendering the subject in a simple graphic format, Mr Mo Visions recontextualises the original sculpture’s questions about value and material. The series title, ‘BanaNo’, appears to reference the Banano cryptocurrency, an online project rich in its own specific meme culture. This unique PNG image, produced on 13 December 2024, thus situates a recent art historical event within a distinct internet subculture.
