The Queen

Issued in November 2022, this work presents the queen, the most powerful piece in chess. Laurence Fuller confirms that for him, “Chess is the sovereign metaphor for strategy”. The artwork is a composite of animated artificial intelligence art, music, and a spoken poem written and performed by the artist. The text describes a figure who must read the moves of others and for whom victory requires sacrifice. This piece, from the series Elysium Rising, acts as a counterpart to an earlier work titled REX, continuing the artist's examination of royal power.
