This work from the Coiling 1 series is a generative study in weaving. Created on 13 October 2022, it renders a grey sphere composed of coiling rings. The studio describes the system as an experiment using a cellular automata algorithm to form a basket. Each pattern grows from a randomised initial condition, with its development guided by one of 256 possible rule sets. The algorithm is self referencing, meaning it adapts as it moves across the surface. This process builds the object ring by ring, producing a unique and structured woven form.
