Piter Pasma
GEOMORPHISM #153
Piter Pasma employs a generative method called rejection sampling to create the works in his GEOMORPHISM series, including this piece from December 2022. The artist’s code generates random sets of parameters and then assesses the potential output, accepting only those that meet specific conditions related to the quantity of visible objects, light and shade. Pasma uses his own ray hatching framework to render the final image of what he terms “thinking rocks”. He suggests the extended rendering time is a component of the work, designed to prompt consideration of time spans too vast for human comprehension.
