Michaël Zancan’s note for the series Landscape with Carbon Capture expresses limited faith in technology to solve environmental crises, placing hope instead in “humanity, in its conscience”. This work, a digitally generated PNG image from 2022, is one of more than eleven thousand variations produced by a single algorithm. The series title refers to a specific technology the artist views with scepticism. Zancan describes art as possessing a “charismatic and unifying” energy, capable of affecting people directly.
