Michaël Zancan
Landscape with Carbon Capture #3694
Generated through a custom program, this piece is part of a body of work examining the psychology of environmental inaction. In his notes for the series, Michaël Zancan writes about the human tendency to use the promise of future technologies to manage feelings of “anguish, our helplessness or our guilt”. This composition, a unique outcome of the artist’s Javascript code, is a critique of his “own environmental consciousness”. It represents one of thousands of variations from a system that confronts the discomfort of environmental hypocrisy, originating from the artist’s dual practice as a painter and programmer.
