This image is a unique output from Michaël Zancan's generative series Landscape with Carbon Capture, from 2022. The project reflects the artist’s dual background as a painter and programmer, joining the aesthetics of one discipline with the logic of the other. Zancan's statement that emissions will “stain my canvas” directly invokes the language of painting to describe a digital process. This work, generated by code, thus embodies the tension Zancan identifies between his technological medium and his natural themes. The series title itself juxtaposes a classical art form with a modern technological concept.
