Jordi Gandul is an artist based in Barcelona, Spain. His practice in digital illustration and two dimensional animation grew from a background in graphic design, which he began studying in 2012. Gandul has identified this academic period as the point where an early interest in drawing evolved into a sustained engagement with visual storytelling through digital media. He began to release his work through online art platforms in June 2021, and has since been an active participant in artist collectives such as The Builders DAO.
Gandul works primarily with vector illustration, yet he describes his creative approach as a form of visual anarchism. This method intentionally rejects strict grids or rules in favour of an intuitive process of freestyling. His compositions are built from clean geometry, bold outlines and flat planes of vibrant colour, often with the addition of rough textures to create visual contrast. This vocabulary extends to his animated works, which add rhythm to his designs, and to collaborative generative projects where his style is integrated into an algorithmic system.
A recurring interest in Gandul’s work is the dynamic between chaos and order, the human and the machine. His style draws from a range of aesthetic sources, including Japanese popular culture, graffiti, cartoons, and the visual language of early arcade games. These influences coalesce into detailed compositions, from surreal character studies to complex cityscapes. Narrative notes attached to certain works, such as HANGOVER, provide textual entry points into these imagined worlds, describing dystopian settings built for transgression. The resulting images present a viewer with carefully structured yet unpredictable visual environments.
