RGB Elementary Cellular Automaton #821

A part of the fx(hash): Genesis collection, this work from 11 November 2021 provides a clear example of the artist's procedural practice. The piece renders the output of three overlapping cellular automata, a model developed by Stephen Wolfram. By assigning each automaton to a different primary colour channel, the work makes the medium of the screen and the nature of digital colour part of its subject. Its intricate patterns are not a depiction, but the direct result of a computational system whose outcome is determined by a random selection of predetermined rules.
